Spring Beret

Pattern: Spring Beret (ravelry link)
Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted "Lettuce" (less than one skein)
Needles: #9 DPN's and Circulars

I had a ball of Malabrigo sitting around and I knew I wanted to make myself a nice new Winter hat. Beret's seem to be all the rage this year in the knitting universe, so I decided to cast on for a nice big slouchy one to wear when the weather got chilly.

This pattern is SO simple, and very well written. The lace pattern is impossible to forget, and within a few nights of sitting on the sofa you have a warm slouchy beret. The pattern was written for cotton yarn because it was designed to be a light Spring hat, but I have to say that the Malabrigo really makes this sing, it's so squishy, it's impossible not to caress.

When photographing it, my husband commented that the back looked like a plant, and now that I see the photos I tend to agree. Appropriately though, I think it looks like a head of lettuce...and that's just fine with me!

I've gotten so many compliments on this one that it's hard to count. In fact, a co-worker has asked me to make her one...so stay tuned for another Malabrigo Spring Beret in "Tuscan Sky".

WOW!! It's beautiful. And color is so pretty on you.

I normally don't wear hats because my hair is so curly; but I think this one just might work for ME curlies. :)
