Yellow Alpaca Socks for Mom

Pattern: None
Yarn: Alpaca with a Twist in a deep golden yellow
Needles: #3 DPN's
For: My Mother

When we were in Michigan this Summer for my family reunion, a few of us stopped by a lovely shop called Yarn for Ewe. I picked up some sock yarn (Lang JaWoll) and my Mother asked me if I could knit her a pair of socks. I, of course, told her yes and asked her to pick out some yarn. She told me that she wanted a pair to wear around the house, to keep her feet warm in the Winter. I explained the sock yarn selections, and she went for a 100% alpaca. I told her that the yarn may eventually felt and that it would be hand wash, but she was unmoved - this was the yarn for her.

Once I started knitting it, I was pleased with how soft the end fabric was becoming. All too often, a yarn that is soft in the hank is unimpressive as a knitted garment. This yarn is soft, and I was duly pleased by that. I decided that since my Mother was going to be wearing these in place of slippers that I would knit her garter stitch heels and toes, for added cushioning. I can't wait to package these up and send them off to her, I hope they fit!
